Aksel Lund Svindal has enjoyed an unscheduled longer stay in Beaver Creek, not that he’s minded too much, with a second in the Super-G and lots more fun besides.

This is what the World Cup tour is all about – travelling around the world. Right now we’re hanging out at the airport in Calgary hoping our flight won’t be any more delayed than the 45 minutes they’ve already announced. This is the Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish crew. First training run in Beaver Creek is tomorrow, so this flight had better not be too late!

If you are a race car and a fine-tuned piece of machinery, then you need race fuel. Not sure if the Slovenians are gonna fire on all pistons here in Beaver Creek. This is their dinner at Denver International.

Not racing downhill when the weather is like this and the snow on the hill is perfect… that feels very strange. But there was one spot on the hill that looked very sketchy – a piece of terrain that could send racers flying straight in the nets, if not over and into the woods. Always hard to make a good call when everything else is so perfect.

Without the equipment you have at the gym, it’s all about using what’s handy… in this case walking across water bottles while catching a water bottle. And by the way, great to get a run in at the downhill here in Beaver Creek. And looks like we’ll stay here another week. Sorry for Val d’Isère, but happy we are able to race here.

Went for a run around Beaver Creek today. Nice to have some good company. Doctor Ola is here. He’s the doctor that was with me when I crashed here in 2007 and followed me through that comeback. And my friend Michael flew in from New York to watch the races. Good people!

I think Beaver Creek is one of the nicest stops on the World Cup tour [Aksel took second place in the Super-G (see picture, top) so no surprise!]. Check out the atmosphere at the ice rink in the village tonight.

I know it’s GS [Giant Slalom] tomorrow, but this is, for sure, “downhill food”. Lots of steak! The reservation was done in my name and the restaurant put up Norwegian flags and there was champagne on the house. Good service at the Beaver Creek chophouse! And their magician is awesome. I was 30cm away and still couldn’t understand anything. Magic!

Five Norwegians in the final, biggest nation together with Austria. And Leif [Kristian Haugen] laid down an awesome first run and showed that he belongs in the first group. Watching him from the finish area, the second run was almost more exciting than being on the course myself. Everything didn’t go as perfectly on that second run, but still a good race for Team Norway. Good job guys!
All the best,
Aksel
