Marko Grilc was the surprise package at the FIS LG Snowboard World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden. The 26-year-old from Slovenia pulled out all the stops to finish second as Stefan Gimpl completed a Big Air hat-trick.

After finishing 13th and 14th in the previous rounds in London and Barcelona, Grilc put on an impressive display in front of a crowd of around 20,000.

He picked up 50.5 points from his two runs but fell just 0.3 points short of Gimpl, who made it three wins out of three to cement his place at the top of the overall standings.

Gimpl has picked up 3,000 points from the opening three rounds and finds himself 900 points clear of closest challenger, highly rated Swiss youngster Gian-Luca Cavigelli, who had to settle for fourth place in Stockholm.

Following his second-placed finish Grilc is now fourth in the overall standings, 280 points behind Norway’s Gjermund Braaten, who finished third in Sweden.

The next Big Air World Cup is scheduled to take place in Seoul, Korea on December 13. The FIS Snowboard World Cup website has the latest details.
