This summer, a capacity crowd in Fallon & Byrne, Dublin were treated to a unique musical experience.Ireland’s very own electronic music master, Jape, was joined by leftfield producer & ‘monome pioneer’ Deadelus for the Red Bull Music Academy Info Session.
The Red Bull Music Academy Info Sessions offer people the opportunity to engage with their peers, share musical ideas & learn more about the workings of the Academy.
MC for the night was Copenhagen based DJ Fergus Murphy & he had little trouble teasing interesting & entertaining anecdotes from both guests!
Deadelus’ discussion focused on the changing world of the industry & how the electronic revolution offers unlimited creative possibilities.
He finished off by playing a rousing set, using the Monome to layer samples & splice tracks.
Jape (aka Richie Egan) engaged in a passionate & often hilarious discussion on the technology of modern music.
Referring to the creative process Richie explained that, “there’s people out there who spend millions on gear & have never produced a track while someone else picks up an old PC, a mixer & some keyboards & can make magic. It’s an expression of your soul. The key is not how good your equipment is but how you use it to capture your emotions.”
Afterwards, former participants at the Red Bull Music Academy, RUARI, Colm Kenefick & Loughlin McSweeney took to the decks & produced some sweet sounds.
The whole bandwagon rolled on to Oxegen where the Red Bull Music Academy hosted it’s own unique stage featuring astounding acts such as M83, Florence & the Machine & Of Montreal.
